September Monthly Favorites
For September, I have been loving getting out my fall decorations. This is by far my favorite season and time of the year. The burnt oranges and reds and golds in the decor, not to mention all of the amazing scents that come out for the fall and holiday time. I have been obsessing over candles right now! I always stock up on all of the fall candles in the beginning of September because they are just the best. They make my entire house smell like the season, even thought the hot Arizona weather outside doesn’t give me those fall vibes. Any candles that have a cranberry, pumpkin, or outdoors scent to them are what I love during this time. Bath and Body Works candle in “Leaves” , anything cinnamon scented, and “Pumpkin Pie” have always been my go-to. But, I also love these scents from Chesapeake Bay called “Pumpkin Latte” and “Pumpkin Cider“. So good! I already added their New York Botanical Garden “Red Maple” to my wish list, along with their “Man Cave” Soy Candle.
If you didn’t know by now, I’m a skincare nut. If there is a skin gadget out there, I’m trying it. Much earlier this year, I finally shelled out the cash and tried a Clarisonic Cleansing Brush (I got the Mia 2). It promises to remove dirt, oil and makeup 6x better than hands alone with a gentle, two speed cleansing brush that has an automatic timer so you don’t over use it. It also prepares skin for better absorption of creams, serums and moisturizers and promises to be gentle enough to use twice daily. With all the hype and promises, I was expecting nothing short of a miracle and I was gravely disappointed. After using it for two days with the brush head that was included, my face was chewed up and irritated. It almost looked like I had a sunburn, and then I started peeling. Don’t worry, I didn’t use the cleanser that came with it, because one look at the ingredients and I knew it would be better to just light my skin on fire. If you want to know which skin care products I recommend, check out my post on Seasonal Skincare Switches for YOUR Skin Type. Anyways, the brush head was just so intensely abrasive that I set it aside for several months, always too afraid to try it again, but not ready to give up on it either.
I sat on my laurels and didn’t return it in time, so not wanting to waste all that money, I finally set out to find a better brush head at Ulta. One of the Clinique reps saw me browsing the brush heads and snuck over to help me. She took one look at my fair, sensitive skin and said “trust me, you want this one“, with a wink. She whispered to me that she wasn’t really supposed to talk about other brands, but that she couldn’t shut up about this brush head. Considering that Clinique has their own line of sonic cleansing brushes, I felt like I got the inside scoop. And ladies, the Clarisonic Luxe Cashmere Cleanse Facial Brush Head is a GAME CHANGER for me. It is so gentle and plush. It definitely feels like my face is being polished, rather than exfoliated. And my skin is radiant and smooth and just soaks up my serums and moisturizers. So if you gave up on your Clarisonic brush (Joanna said she did and returned it), give this brush head a try because you won’t regret it! Oh, and if you have a different skin type, they offer brush heads for acne-prone skin, pore-reducing, and even a pedicure brush head! Needless, to say, I’m officially now in love with my Clarisonic.
I have been waking up with puffy eyes lately, so a few months back I ordered a bunch of different eye patches from Amazon. These are by FAR the best of the bunch and I continue to order them again and again. These Crystal 24K Gold Powder Gel Collagen Eye Masks are amazing. I keep them in the fridge and if I wake up extra puffy, I just pop them on for 10 minutes. They feel SO good under my eyes and I notice a serious difference. They get rid of puffiness and even smooth out the under eye area. It leaves a little bit of product under my eye, which I rinse off. My under eye area is pretty sensitive, and these do not irritate me at all. Seriously, get these. You will thank me.
Okay y’all..I have been counting down the days since I could share my new favorite product with you! Here’s the deal…my hair is naturally stick straight and I used to have to wash it every. single. day. But with the amika (mod)ern curler + clutch my hair looks like this after FOUR days of not washing it and just throwing in some curls with the curler…
To copy this style, I’d recommend watching this short tutorial but then after that, it’s super easy! I found that it works well on day one, and then even better on days two and beyond after washing your hair. I just throw in a little dry shampoo, a few curls, and then tada…I’ve reached my #hairgoals!
Make sure you use a heat protectant after separating each section but before curling like the Oribe Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray, which makes hair soft and shiny, but still gives plenty of texture, so my hair will hold the curl. You can also try Bumble and bumble Spray de Mode for a heat protectant styling spray that is super flexible.
